Ok, couple clarifications here to make sure we're talking about the same thing...
In Skype 3, a file transfer was a separate dialog. The JAWS command for reading the status bar, JAWSKey+PageDown, may have read something useful there, but I don't know, since I never tried that. In Skype 4, file transfers are not separate dialogs. They are changing lines within a text chat window. Unless I missed something huge, there is no status bar for a file transfer anywhere in Skype 4. If you're seeing something different, please describe.
