Hi,
don't know about the Trademark, but the number 3 must indicate there are 
three conversations which contain unread matherial. Go to the conversations 
list and see in which ones JAWS will say new before the contacts name. Then 
try to go to Applications / Send IM, to open the chat window if you're using 
compact view, or applications / mark as read if the step above does not 
solve your problem.
