I am hearing reports that Skype 4.1.0.136, the official Skype 4.1 production release, crashes more often than most Skype releases. I have seen some crashes of this version myself, seemingly more than average, though not a huge number.
I urge people, when one of those Microsoft error boxes comes up, to send the error report, rather than pressing "Don't Send." Skype actually receives those reports, so when you send one, you add to Skype's awareness of the crashes occurring out there in the wild. Note that Skype, the company, not Microsoft, receives and processes the report. I used to think only Microsoft got those, and that it would thus be useless to send in the reports. I am told this is not true and that Skype gets them and can make use of them. If you don't have speech and you suspect an error box is in focus, try typing Alt+S, rather than hitting Space, to send the report. Focus lands on the "Don't Send" button, but Alt+S will send the report. If after about ten seconds you still don't have speech, try Space or Shift+Space, in case focus moved to a Close button after the report was sent. Skype, the company, doesn't like Skype crashing any more than we do. I am sending this message to the head of the Skype testing team as well as to this list. As I believe there are some 300 blind people on this list, I hope this message increases the number of crash reports coming into Skype until we happily lose the ability to crash Skype in the first place. :-) -- Doug Lee dgl at dlee.org http://www.dlee.org SSB BART Group doug.lee at ssbbartgroup.com http://www.ssbbartgroup.com "The U.
