I'm not Sarah, though I currently happen to be sitting in her house.
Sarah has been dealing with company (not just me) for a while and is
therefore often behind in email, and she's out most of today. I would
wait for her to answer, except for the number of messages being posted
on this topic.

So here's my view: The original message was, indeed, off topic. It
was well intended, but strictly speaking, it is not relevant to the
list. Many Skypers don't use JAWS, and many more don't keep up with
JAWS updates for one reason or another. If the message had gone
unchallenged, it probably would have floated quietly by without
causing any trouble. But now that several people have officially
raised the question of whether it is acceptable, I would think the
question must be answered. But the moderator need not answer it; it
is already answered by the list guidelines. If a JAWS update
specifically addresses Skype somehow, it would be on topic to say so.
Otherwise, a JAWS update notice, a Window-Eyes update notice, a Talks
or Symbian update notice, etc., are off topic because they do not
relate directly to the use of Skype by blind people.

To the original poster: I'm sorry your good intentions were met with
such a commotion. Understand, though, that the list is not being
intolerant, it's just being consistent and trying to keep its focus.
People leave when too much off topic is said, too.

Please let this discussion close now.

I am often times amazed at the lack of mercy that emits from some of us blind

What is the big deal about someone posting about an update of a screen reading
software? In the first place, all of us that on this list use screen reader of
some kind or the other. We wouldn't be able to read anything in Skype without
any of the screen reader of choice that we use; and if that is true, tell me my
friends, what is the sin of the person who tells us of an update in one of the
screen reader that some of us use?

Please, be merciful and if this kind of intolerance persists, then this list
definitely isn't one to belong to.
