Thanks Doug. And, to answer Jim, my netbook knows exactly what I've plugged
in, and that mike works perfectly, thank goodness! It's the internal one
that seems to have given up the ghost! I'm afraid it may have done just
that! Since the headset I have weighs a ton, I'm contemplating buying a new
one!

Oh here I go again, but you guys are a wealth of information.
I have always been able to use either my netbook's built-in mike, or the
one on my headphones. The headset has two jacks, as opposed to a USB
connector. Tonight, my netbook mike won't work. And, when I shut down the
computer, or rather, restarted it, it said saving settings, after all
those silly error messages. To the best of my knowledge, I hadn't changed
any settings that should have affected the netbook mike. Any ideas what I
might try?
Also, when a contact comes online, it isn't announcing who it is,
although it does tell me who is calling me. I have all the check boxes in
the notifications options checked. Any thoughts about that?
I said I wasn't a whiner, but it seems I'm doing my best to get a
reputation here! Thanks so much for all of your help!
