Hi all.
I just ran across some interesting information for those of you who are
running windows 7, and who like me would like to continue using older
versions of skype because you hate the new interface that was introduced
from skype 4 x onwards.
I absolutely hate it, and have refused to upgrade to skype 4x ever since
its release.
However I upgraded to windows 7 recently, and was unpleasantly surprised
to find that if you try to use skype 3.8 with windows ,7 as soon as you
try to log in it crashes.
I have been looking for a way around this for some time, as I just
couldn't get to grips with the new interface for skype 4.
and hear is the solution.
you can't use skype 3.8 with windows 7, but for some very strange reason
you can use skype 3.6 with it.
when you run the installer, you get a compatibility message, but you can
just ignore it, just install skype 3.6 anyway, and it will let you log
in fine without it crashing.
I removed the skype 4 scripts, at least I think I fully removed them,
however when I start jaws, I get some weird unknown function message, is
that something to do with bits of the old 4x scripts I might have left
around? Or could it be something to do with skype watch which I set jaws
up to use for 4 x.
I went through both the shared settings and my settings folders in jaws
11, deleting any files to do with skype at least that had skype in the name.
If anyone knows what might be causing the unknown function message I
would appreciate it if you could tell me please.
My jaws is working, but obviously it would be a good idea to sort the
script problem out.
But at least I am back on skype 3.6 so I am now happy.
Oh and I almost forgot, to get the latest version of skype 3.6 go to
www.oldapps.com
and search for skype 3.6
as far as I can tell, the last version of 3.6 is
3.6.0.248
