i did try to add contacts to a file then when i went to view themjaws said
there was nothing there or something like that.
but the file size was 713 megabytes.
i will try again but could do with knowing how to view them.
it may be possible they can't be viewed unless they are in skype but if that
is the case what if they did not go to the stored place i put them?
i am using skype version 5.0.00156
in answer to your other item re searching by name it can be done but if it
is a very popular name say john smith for instance you may as well book a
holiday as most of the week will be sorting through them to find the one you
are looking for.
are you using skype talking 9?
it's very good as my moods message states i am impressed.

Here are the steps for backing up your Skype contacts using Skype 5.
In the Contacts menu, press the up or down arrow key till you get to
Advanced, then press the right arrow to open the sub-menu, and, when you
find Backup To File, press Enter. Then you'll find an ordinary Save As
window, the name of the file being your Skype name. In Skype 5 there seems
to be only one format you can save to, .vcf or something like that, but,
once you've saved your contacts, they will turn up in My Documents or
wherever you've saved them to, the file still bearing your Skype name,
unless you've named it something else before saving it. I personally
always save my Skype contacts file with its default name, my Skype name.
If you're using an earlier version of Skype, Yvonne, please let us know,
then someone else on the list, who uses the same version as you, will
perhaps be of more help than me. I think Skype 4's instructions are
similar to mine, but it's so long since I used Skype 3 that I really can't
remember what I did, other than that I went to a different menu to back up
my contacts.

Hi, yvonne. I'm using skype 3.7, so it's an older one. The steps I use
are as follows:
When in skype:
Press alt+T for the tools menu.
Arrow to options, press enter
Arrow to Advanced Settings, Press Enter
Arrow to Back Up Contacts, press Enter
Choose which file type you want for backing up your contacts.
Although there may be encrypted data in the file, you may also be able
to read the names and skype names of your contacts in notepad or some
other text file reader.
The steps here may not apply exactly to Skype 5, but they should be
similar enough so that you can find the Back Up Skype Contacts option.

i found 3 of them 2 from email addresses and 1 from a recently sent
voicemail but can't remember who any more are.
and i probably did not have their email address or phone numbers
and of course i can't remember their skype username.

This is why it is always good to back up your skype contacts to a
file. This way, if you accidentally delete a contact, you can import
your contacts back into skype.

I don't think there is any way of undeleting Skype contacts you
accidentally deleted, Yvonne: if there is, I don't know about it.
All I can suggest is re-adding the contacts. You can perhaps explain
in, the contact request messages, why you had to re-add them, but
that's up to you of course.
