Hello,
Newer versions work fine on netbooks. The problem might be when You
installed Skype, You also installed the Google toolbar or some other Google
plugins that are not so Screenreader friendly, specially with Jaws.
So try to uninstall it and reinstall again, making sure You uncheck the
checkbox regarding plugins and toolbars.
