I have not concentrated on sending SMS messages because I have found it unreliable. Skype sends them with either your Skype ID or a phone number you set up yourself as source. The latter case should work well and be reliable but requires that you have a phone number at which to receive SMS. I don't have this, at least not conveniently. If you let Skype use your Skype ID as the source of an SMS, people will not be able to reply to you, and not all carriers will transmit your messages at all.
So this part of Skype may deserve some attention, but I haven't managed that yet. Hi Doug and all, I didn't know that this feature was available on Skype 5.2, but you actually can add a phone number to one of your contacts which is handy if you want to send them an SMS for example. Of course you must have skype out credit to be able to use that. But the cost is reasonable, and sending an SMS from your computer keyboard is so amazingly quick. Unfortunately, this feature is not accessible yet. Here is what Skype help says about this. 1. In your contact list, select the contact you want to add a phone number to. 2. Above the calling area, click the little arrow on the green Call button and select Add phone number. 3. Select a flag from the country-code dropdown list, and then type in a valid phone number. 4.
