what I suggest with this regard is, you better select the realtech driver
first. for both your output and input. if that's not working, try windows
default sound card. sometimes, we've to go with trial and error basis,
though. lol.

Thanks for your message. You're not "off" at all, although
to try the microphone socket at the back of my tower would
possibly mean I needed sighted help to pull the tower
forward from under my desk without the wires at the back
coming out, and also to locate the correct socket on the
back of the machine for a microphone.
I'll try both your suggestions early next year, although I
sent the problem to this list to see if I could try and
resolve it without sighted help, but it looks as if I can't.
