Subject: [Skypeenglish] New webcam experience
Hi. I thought I would convey my experience with my new Skype webcam. some
time ago I herd someone on the Leo Laporte radio show ask for a suggestion
for a webcam. Leo suggested the Logitech C910 HD Pro, which I purchased for
$50 from Amazon.
Earlier today I completed my first video call with this webcam. I had my
nephew help me test the resolution of the camera. I asked how the picture
looked on his end, and he said the quality is really good. He said it looks
better than a CRT old school TV, but not as good as 1080P high def cameras.
I knew I was not going to get that kind of high resolution because the
webcam specs state it performs best at 720P.
I bought a USB card reader along with the webcam. AS we all know, the print
on the user manuals of small electronic devices is something like a 6 point
font--exaggeration but you get it. For kicks I held the user manual in front
of the camera, and to my surprise he was able to read it. I asked about the
clarity and he said it was very good. Ok, solution for sighted help for mail
and written material, check!
I then placed my netbook screen in front of the camera and asked my nephew
to read something I typed in notepad. He was able to read the text, spelling
errors and all on this little screen. Sighted tech support help for screen I
can't read, Check!
I then placed my cell phone screen up near the camera and he was able to
read the text on the screen. Cell phone tech support via Skype, check!
I asked him to identify some dollar bills of various denominations. He
conveyed the dollar amount as quickly as I could unfold the dollars.
Emergency cash counting, check!
My nephew said I sounded really clear even though I was speaking about 4
feet from the webcam itself, so it looks like the microphones work very well
too.
This webcam has 2 microphones at each side of the camera making them stereo
mics of course. The camera in total is about 3.5 inches long by about 1 inch
high and 1 inch from front to back. It connects to my computer via USB 2.0
and hangs from the top of my monitor.
It appears I made a really good purchase, but it was no surprise since the
camera is rated at 4.5 out of 5 stars from some 500+ Amazon.com customers.
Here's where you can get it if you're interested:
