I finally managed a Tandem session with someone who has Messenger contacts integrated into Skype 6, so I could figure out why JAWS, with my scripts, is not reporting Messenger online statuses for contacts. My suspicions were correct: Skype 6 is not providing this information via MSAA or any other means except via the icon to the left of the names in the Contacts list. If a Messenger user has set a status message, that is provided via MSAA and currently speaks in Skype. This problem will best be remedied by Skype, not by scripting. However, those wishing to obtain this information for themselves in the mean time should be able to do the following: 1. Label the icons beside Messenger contacts via the JAWS graphics labeler. 2. To check the online status of a Messenger contact, RouteJAWSToPC and use SayLine (Insert+UpArrow) to read the icon label along with the contact name. I am not likely to attempt to script the above functionality, mostly because icon labels don't always work identically from one computer to another.
