It is my hope that using the old Skype4COM.dll, and/or holding back on updating Skype past a certain point, will allow Desktop API apps to continue working. However, due to the existance of a central Desktop API app directory that was rumored to be going down a while back, and due to my only partial understanding of the inner workings of this API within the Skype network, I am not absolutely certain this will work indefinitely.
For the moment though, all current Mac and Windows Skype versions I've seen still allow the Desktop API to work.
