Hey Doris,
there was an issue with older Skype versions where Skype Home was
authomatically popped open in compact view, but they fixed it already
since much time...
BTW, are you sure you are in compact view? If you used Skype 3.8 till
some time ago as I remember, I recommend you to set it that way so that
chat windows are separate as was true for Skype 3.8, otherwise they're
inside the main Skype window.
