I am embarrassed to say but I had the mute button on, thus I couldn't be
heard, when I unmuted the button, it works fine, thanks for asking, Judy

Hi Judy,
how did you fix your problem, what did you do that finally got it all going
again?
Questions and requests for help are very good, as well as all the many
solutions offered by the community but it also would be helpful if we could
hear how the person with the original problem did ultimately solve it.

Those who have problems are also a very valuable part of the community,
because questions are what lead to answers! LOL

Please share back and we will all become a little smarter.
Thanks,

Subject: Re: [Skypeenglish] problem with microphone

Hi Judy,
recently I had a mic problem with Skype running 2 mics at :the same time so
Jaws could be heard louder than I was! LOL
I know this is the opposite of your problem not having any mic and I having
more than one but during the solving of my problem I discovered a few thinks
about Skype that I never saw before in any other software and I have been
using talking computers for 29 years.
first Skype has several menus that selects and controls which mic it's
going to use and at what volume levels.
I hit the alt key and then arrow to the right until I hear the word "Call"
then I arrow down about ten times until I hear "audio settings"
click on that and then start tabbing over and the first thing you will hear
is mic setting and which mic Skype is looking at
Not knowing your specific equipment I can't give you too much detail about
your mic because some computers have internal mics as well as jacks in the
front or side or rear that a headset can plug into, these are questions you
will need to learn for yourself about your equipment,
Back to the audio settings menu:
the next tab allows you to set the volume level of your mic with a simple
right or left arrow increasing or decreasing the volume,
the next tab is a simple check box if you just want Skype to pick a setting
that it does on its own which automatically makes you louder or quieter as
it feels is needed.
hitting the tab again several times takes you to another set of settings
called "show advanced options":
Now here is where it does something I've never seen before:
when you first enter this menu it is a list of all the mics that Skype is
seeing it could possibly use, and you can hear them with a simple up or down
arrow keystroke,
on any one of those in the list but then hitting the tab key you hear the
word up and hitting the tab key again you hear the word down
Skype is asking you to move the mic you want to use as your default to the
very top of the list
depending upon where your mic appears in the list you may have to move it up
several times like I did because mine was showing 4 mics and the one I
wanted was at the bottom of the list of 4.
then after your mic is at the top of the list tab a few more times and you
will hear save settings
then I would suggest you hit the alt key again and repeat the first few
steps just to see if in the audio settings Skype is showing your mic of
preference as the one it's looking to use.
right arrow key until you hear the word "call"
down arrow until you hear "audio settings"
by the way going down that call menu you might hear "mute mic" check or un
check, you may or may not be able to do that using a screen reader so I just
go over that and continue down until I hear the audio settings as I have
previously described.

Judy, I know this may sound complicated but trust me it's easier than it
sounds and the best part is you won't set your machine on fire! LOL and the
escape key can get you out of any place you might get lost in.
Good luck,

I am using Skype with JAWS 17 with the scripts. When I try to make a skype

call, I cannot be heard. I thought it was a problem with my Mic so I bought

a new microphone but the problem is still there. I might have accidentally

muted my mike but am not sure how to find that setting, can someone help?

Thanks, Judy
