News is a bit slow this weekend and just about the only interesting thing
worth reporting is a very long new entry added to the Slackware Current
ChangeLog earlier today. The most controversial part is that Patrick
Volkerding has finally decided to remove GNOME from the distribution:
"gnome/*: Removed from -current, and turned over to community support and
distribution. I'm not going to rehash all the reasons behind this, but
it's been under consideration for more than four years. There are already
good projects in place to provide Slackware GNOME for those who want it,
and these are more complete than what Slackware has shipped in the past."
Also in the ChangeLog, KDE has been upgraded to 3.4.0 together with a huge
number of other packages, and Mozilla has been re-instated into the
distribution after several months of absence. Read here for further
details.
