bom, testei aqui com o Slackware64-current, apenas descomentei a linha:
# Professional File Transfer Protocol (FTP) server.
ftp stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/tcpd proftpd
do /etc/inetd.conf e iniciei o inetd (/etc/rc.d/rc.inetd start).
Ao logar com ftp:
# ftp localhost
Connected to localhost.
220 ProFTPD 1.3.2 Server (ProFTPD Default Installation) [127.0.0.1]
Name (localhost:herbert): herbert
331 Password required for herbert
Password:
230 User herbert logged in
Remote system type is UNIX.
Using binary mode to transfer files.
ftp>
ftp>
Com telnet:
# telnet localhost 21
Trying 127.0.0.1...
Connected to localhost.
Escape character is '^]'.
220 ProFTPD 1.3.2 Server (ProFTPD Default Installation) [127.0.0.1]
user herbert
331 Password required for herbert
Enfim, funciona com configurações default normalmente, dê mais detalhes de tudo
que fez e verifique também os logs. Acredito que no 12.2 deva ser o mesmo.
