after a while i'm unable to run more applications - Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server Xlib: Maximum number of clients reached
there's a lot of information available on the internet, but it didn't help me to resolve this problem.
details :
i'm running slackware-current/kde as a workstation. i have opera with a bunch of windows open, xmms, thunderbird, a lot of konsoles.
xrestop says : Monitoring 36 clients.
open applications : xmms
thunderbird
3x kedit
14x konsole
1x opera with 12 windows (but it seems these do not count, because i can easily open new windows inside of opera even after xlib complains about client limit for other applications)
i've found different reasons mentioned - running out of file descriptors, ptys etc.
as a possible reason was mentioned kde spawning too many kioslave processes - but i have only one kio_file and one kio_uiserver process, so this should not be the problem.
how many clients do x.org shipped with slackware permit by default ?
can i increase this limit easily ?
can i determine which applications are using these client resources (wether they are file descriptors or any other resource) ?
