Hi folks, I've been pretty cagey about our efforts with respect to integration of Webkit into the Second Life viewer, in large part because we haven't had much beyond the prototype/vaporware stage. The topic came up again at the public office hour. See here for the transcript: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Open_Source_Meeting/2008-11-07
Not that we're really far beyond the prototype stage still, but we have a little work to show you. We're working with Torch Mobile, a company with a pretty deep bench when it comes to Webkit development (they have several committers on staff). They've published a Git repository with their latest work, which you can browse here: http://code.staikos.net/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi?p=llmozlib;a=summary Note that this is just source code for Webkit integrated into uBrowser (which is API compatible with the Second Life viewer, and thus provides a step toward integration). More details about uBrowser are here: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/UBrowser They've done some work on QtWebkit, and are in the process of prototyping Skia/Webkit. We haven't settled on an exact direction yet, but we'd like to see what people who download the code and try to get it working think.
