Yup. Generally, there's work on severing database dependencies so group, user, land, etc can be split apart and scaled and tuned independently. I'm not the best Linden to ask about that work - but the details I've seen are pretty cool. It could be worth a post to the tech section of our blog if you ask for more about it there.
