That is not entirely true... There are lots of private, isolated sims
that use the fact that *despite* that they are on a map, say,
at 512 meter distance from the "next" sim-- they are really
a world apart.

I can set a marker in the map of my neighbor sim and SEE the
red beam in the virtual world... but when I cam over there,
it's just sea. That is how it should be: a private sim should
be totally cut off from the rest of the world. In fact, it
shouldn't even BE on "the map"!.

Maybe that is the way to go... Don't have ONE map for all
sims, but have as many maps as there are areas where you can
actually fly (or cam) around between sims. Then only allow
people to see a map if they have access in the first place.
Only then you can allow people to zoom and zoom and zoom and
actually be there.
