You can use it without shadows, that's the beauty. Once RenderUseFBO and RenderDeferred are enabled, simply deactiavate RenderSunShdaows(?). I think that was the debug param. And voila, you have the deferred renderer without any shadowing. I however don't know if shadow calculations aren't still going on in the background, and this simply turns off the rendering of those.
