I tried with a telnet accessing the Slide WebdavServlet. Request: GET /files/Address.txt HTTP/1.1 Host: localhost Range: bytes=0- Response: HTTP/1.1 206 Partial Content Content-Type: text/plain Content-Length: 49 Date: Mon, 03 Dec 2001 02:48:50 GMT Server: Apache Tomcat/4.1-dev (HTTP/1.1 Connector) Content-Range: bytes 0-48/49 Last-Modified: Mon, 03 Dec 2001 02:42:15 GMT ETag: "49-1007347335000" Set-Cookie: JSESSIONID=E294C26144B1C975F46085A2C839C8D7;Path=/ Followed by the unchunked content of the file. I wonder why HTTPClient thinks the content is or should be chunked. That's strange. Tomcat 4 will return more or less the same thing to a ranged request.
