At the same time, my proposal doesn't seem to get lots of traction so I might just propose to move things around so that we have
/client /server /tests
all inside the jakarta-slide CVS module.
Is that any better?
Certainly a far smaller incremental step! Your argument for separating out the test files came closer to convincing me the second time around. In any case, the proposal above sounds fine to me, and is exactly what I'd argue for as an alternative. If nothing else, having the separate chunks prove themselves to be separable in the above proposed arrangement (for example, increased interest in the "test" hierarchy) would provide fodder for your more drastic proposal.
