The short answer is no, it can't. But you can still alter the default behaviour in your DAV client to make a lock request before getting the file to open (that is the default behaviour in M$ web folders for example). The most complicated solution would be to alter the default behaviour in the server: I wouldn't recommend it but it's probably the solution you are seeking. In that case, I'm not the best person to answer you. Searching in google, i've read that this is for davfs needs that files have been locked from the server.
