Do I need MySql 4.0 for Slide transactions?

I'm having trouble with putting files in my Slide repository.  Every 
once in a while I get complaints surrounding the attempt to start a 
transaction (NamespaceAccessToken.begin()).  I'm using MySQL 4.0 for my 
database, but I upgraded from an earlier version and I suspect the 
database I have does not support transactions.  Is that required for 
Slide transactions?
