I haven't looked at the code, but seems the right thing to do is refactor it to allow for an InputStream, for which the File version can call into with a new FileInputStream. You can then create a ByteArrayInputStream with your byte[] and pass it in. May take a little code to support this need (not sure), but should do what you want.
I think no refactoring is needed, because latest stable Slide release supports that out of the box (or would I be working with beta code without knowing it?)
