As we're cutting a new release candidate I thought about our release versioning again. We have good way of handling versioning for our bundles but I think we could do better for naming our "big" releases like the launchpad app/webapp and the source release.

These three releases are a "snapshot" of the current state of the project and they should have the same version as they provide different views on the same state of Sling. The versions of the included bundles are done differently and will differ from the version used for these three releases. To make this distinction clear and to show that we will have some of these releases throughout the year, I suggest to simply use just a number for this release.

So the first releases would be launchpad-app-1, launchpad-webapp-1 and sling-1. As the upcoming release is our third try, we'll start with "3" for this to reduce confusion (hopefully). After the release the version will be changed to 4-SNAPSHOT.

WDYT?
