while a think that backward compatibility is important, some sacrifices need to
be done, too. if this is marked clearly, i'd had no problem with it.
the 2nd solution is good, too. but it would invert the flag. so that people
running into problems can easily turn that off.
however, what about an other default name, like:
- resourceProperties ?
- resourceMap
