does tar/gzip do 'incremented' compression or does it compress the file
before deleting it ? ie. if i had a 150 mb file, it would require about
another 100 mbs of free space to compress it before deleting the 150 mb
file ?
or does tar/gzip compress 1 mb, delete 1 mb, compress the next megabyte
and delete the megabyte being compressed simultaneously ? i've yet to see
a compression program that can compress a 150 mb file and delete the
compressed component at the same time, because i don't want to end up
having up to 200 - 250 mbs of drive space used after compression (ie. 150
of original file, and 50 - 100 mbs of archive after compression.)
