I tried gnome-terminal --geometry 40x20+100+100 &
and yes there is a small problem. It does recognise 40x20 ie w x h sizes
for the window but 'sometimes' ignores the position 100+100 ie +x+y.
Interesting that Charlie Brady's system is fine. My system here is RH
6.0 but without gnome running and using E.
Try Eterm and gnome-terminal with the same geo settings and you will see
the difference!
Note that 'sometimes' gnome-terminal does use the +x+y!
I tried different window placement options in E and looked at the gnome
help and the Gnome configuration tool. Nothing there that would seem to
turn off geometry options. Note that the geo option in Gnome help only
mentions the wxh not the +x+y. Is that because it's ignored?
What happens if you try the geo options in the .Xdefaults file?
