yes but it's easy to get a mod done to allow you to play all
"region" dvds.  When I was looking in Singapore about a year
ago the salesman in every shop I asked in could have the mod
done for you before you bought it, if you wanted.
(similar to the ease with which playstation machines are
modded to play pirated cds).
