I did try out demo-linux... ran it up on my wife's W95 machine and
left it running as a surprise for her...... it worked well :)
I tried it on several tafe computers but I think the cheep 2M video
cards defeated it. X fell over with reports of framebuffer errors.

Definitely usefull for people to ahve an explore while they build up
courage to give there computers the full Linux adjustment.
