Have you looked at the CUPS project? And the commercial company behind it?
CUPS is GPL... and comes with basic drivers. (The same ones that
Ghostscript supports etc.. much like say redhat's list)..
And they have a Commercial pack of drivers that supports much more..
That one is quite interestin..
