Whilst on this topic of real databases and transaction engines has
anyone had any success getting 1. Oracle installed on Linux,
2. Configuring it with Raw partitions? The software seems to install
ok but it won't start the database keeps failing with some undefined 
error. Not asking for debug help, I'm just curious if anyone has 
had any success with this.
