General question? - are boot prom's proprietary or can the same boot
prom be moved to various NIC's?
A little bit of history. Part of the reason PC's became popular in
large businesses with computers is that the mainframe could not handle
the demand from many word processor/spreadsheet terminals. They were
okay taking entries from a form to update a database/append to a
transaction file, but not the relatively heavy demands from wp's, etc.
Thinclients will probably run into the same problem, unless the client
is written to do all the gui grunt, so that can rule out cheap
hardware.
Then the problem will be the networking. I noticed that none of the
costings included network upgrades to handle the extra network
traffic.
