Why not make a web based front end on your linux box using postgres + php +
apache or mysql + php + apache. Your clients can be win95 or linux users then
and you will have zero problems when your users migrate from one platform to the
other. As far as I can see correct me anyone if I am wrong), the major factor
in deciding between postgres and mysql is that postgres does support
transactions with rollbacks, whereas mySQL does not, though mySQL may offer
slightly better performance.
