Just one question for starters. Did you create the /storage/proxy-cache
directory when you were root?
Because if you did you will have to change it to the actual user squid takes
once it is started. (usually nobody or squid) Check the following directive
in your squid.conf file:
cache_effective_user squid
cache_effective_group squid
Also make sure you have the cache_dir directive set in the following manner
directive <dir name> <size in MB> <no. of directories> <no. of
sub-directories>
cache_dir /aux/cache 300 16 256

This is the error message I get when i try and start squid. I have already
setup my cache dir and all the directory levels are there. Ive also read the
squid fact and suprise suprise, this error message aint in it. Anyone care
to explain to me what it means before i start leaving holes in the wall the
shape of my head :-P
