When switches first came out and were rather pricey, some brands
brought out switch/hubs, but told you they were switches, which was
only partly true.
A 16 port switch/hub would act as a switch for four groups of four
ports. thus significantly dropping the price compared to a switch, but
still costing more than a hub.
