Correct, I've just installed an Adaptec 2940U for our brand spanking new
DAT tape backup drive.
Slightly off-topic, but someone mentioned Harris Tech in another
thread... i can't find it, so I'll add my 2c here.
It was claimed that Harris are good for when you need things in a hurry.
Well, that's just plain crap. We ordered our dat drive, the adaptec
card and a cable to fit the two about 2 months ago. The drive showed up
2 weeks ago, the card and cable, it was decided, was on a separate
order, and didn't get to the office until last week. Now, the clincher.
For some unknown reason, it was decided that the "cable to fit" the
adaptec and the tape drive was a 50pin micro-d - mirco-d cable, even
when it's plainly obvious that the tape drive uses the BIG FAT 50 pin
connectors. So back on the phone to Harris, and nothing happens for a
week. The other night night (4am) I say, stuff it, I'll just order a new
cable, while I'm at it i'll get a monitor cable for the UPS. I get a call to confirm
the order at 2pm, and ask for same day delivery. They say not a problem, the order
should arrive by 4pm. And thats the last I heard from them.
Hopefully it has arrived at the office by now. I am going to call them
and get a refund on the courier charges for same-day delivery, as it
didn't bloody well happen. This keeps happening for Harris, they are
overpriced and give poor service if you're not buying windows machines.
Next time, i'm going to stick to independent (read: dodgy asian :)
computer shops.
Anyway, just my rant, i had to get it out.
