The only non-standard thing about it is the use of pre-DOCSIS
modems. That's changed for new users too, apparently. The modem
only affects the signalling format on the cable wire, which you
never see anyway. Once you're connected, it's pure IP. You can
do whatever you want with it, within the scope of the terms and
conditions.
Only problem wrt DNS and mail server: there are only dynamically
allocated IP addresses, and I don't think that they will delegate
a domain to your own DNS server, so you have to make do with
third-party dynamic DNS systems. One of the other BPC clients runs
such a system: have a look at http://www.bpc-users.org/.
