I object, that's flamebait.
The open source project I had in mind (for which I wanted project management
software) has never been produced anywhere in the commercial arena, and
probably never will be.
It is for a specific environmental organisation, and given that there are so
few of them around the world (say 20 or 30) it is highly unlikely that the
software is already done somewhere else.
On the other hand, specifications for project management are readily
available in any book on project management from the 1960's onwards.
There is very little on the management of software projects (open source or
otherwise) which is grossly different from the management of any generic
project. They all have cost, resource, people and time restrictions.
The only differences are in the details.
I have used project management software on DOS, Windows and VMS for a
variety of hardware and software projects; I have a brochure on something
from an Australian company which is for managing multi-million $ building
projects (far too big an app for what I'm trying to do; ties into an
accounting package! And runs on Linux.)
