which includes a howto on 
"Linux 2.4 Advanced Routing & Traffic Control HOWTO"

"Do routing based on user id (yes!), MAC address, source IP address, port,
type of service, time of day or content"

You can still do what you're after with kernel version 2.2, but
perhaps you'll need to look at different docs.

You basically have to route based on source address as well as
destination address.
