I've been using RAID 3 and 5 around 1/2 year without any problem and the
reconstruction worked as expected when my system lost power a couple of
months ago. There is a caveat though, RAID code is still under development
that means the future version would be incompatible with the current. So
it would make ungrading kernel harder.

Kernel which was shipped with RedHat 6.1 already included RAID patch. But
if you want upgrading kernel to the recent version, I'll send a patch
against VANILLA kernel 2.2.14.
