I found a guide to setting up ppp under linux. Here is my situation:
I have a 56K Netcomm Roadster. Netcomm say there are no linux drivers for it
but it can work under the OS with an initialisation string found on the
site.
I followed the guide, which I can't find the link but have as a text file on
a hard drive at work. I follow its instructions, moving a 3 files to a
certain directory, then setting up a 'ppp-on' file with the appropriate
phone number, password, modem speed, com port etc. The guidethen says
'Believe it or not, run ppp-* (I forget what it was called) and you'll dial
into your ISP'.
The problem is, there is no mention of where I should put the modem init
string. When I run the script to dial in, the terminal ready LED on the
modem flashes on and off slowly, but doesn't even go 'off the hook'.
To make matters more confusing, linuxconf provides a way of setting up ppp,
but as it is my first time, I had even less success with this.
Can anyone offer any advice or a straight forward guide to setting ppp up,
preferably without using linuxconf?
