Just jumping in in defence of Mandrake here. It's certainly true that
this used to be the case up 'til about 6.x (and I believe that actually
the original reason behind creating Mandrake was indeed to make 'RH with
KDE'), but with 7 Mandrake have moved quite a way from RH, and added
their own stuff like a really nice GUI installer, very easy to use
system config tools of their own, some nice security features that by
default keep things locked down unless you specifically say otherwise
(and sends email to root every day telling you about changes in your
system). With the 7.1 Beta they've also put in XFree 4 and ReiserFS, as
well as a bunch of other interesting new stuff that AFAIK RH doesn't
have yet. Have a look at http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/hydrobeta.php3
for details. Mandrake actually seem to be staying ahead of RH at the
moment by including more recent versions of everything, and more stuff
in general. The things that they tend to follow RH in are directory
structure and so on.
