Hi all

(forgive the barrage of emails)

Has anyone experience using Smart Card Readers with Linux?

I ask because we have people here at work attempting to install RSA's Keon
Desktop. Obviously a proprietary app which supports a myriad of
operating systems:

Microsoft Windows 95
Microsoft Windows 98
Microsoft Windows NT
Microsoft Windows 2000

Cool hey?

Well it seems that they can't even get it to install on the supported
platforms. I'd like to get the readers running on Linux before they even
get them running on the so called Evil Ware.

Of course there has already been a fair amount of development of
software for using these readers in Linux. The prime example is "MUSCLE"
- The Movement for the Use of Smart Cards in a Linux Environment:
http://www.linuxnet.com/

I have not had much success getting the software to recognise my readers
(I have a GemPlus GCR410, IBM-410p, Compaq something).

Has anyone played around or used smart cards in Linux? I like the idea
of having a certificate on my smart card that interacts with a PAM
module to allow secure logins without passwords..

                                                          Night, Chuck
