IMHO go with a router, even though this might get me some flames. I have a
Cisco 761, there are much better ones now. Try and get something with IOS.
The nice thing about my router is that it has never died and I have never
needed to upgrade or maintain it. Then stick a Linux box between the
router and your network.
Even though my main linux gateway machine has been up for a while
3:23pm up 444 days, 8:31, 6 users, load average: 0.01, 0.03, 0.00
it is great to know that you never have to stuff around to get
connectivity. You also learn a new skill.
I am sure others will disagree and a Linux system will do the job but I
have found a router + Linux box a better solution. Your milage may vary.
