I don't hold much hope for recovery of your data but maybe you could
use dd to at least make a copy of the disk then maybe you could
attempt such feats as using a sector editor off a dos boot disk, maybe
you can find superblocks... but then you have to know what they look
like. If you're real keen maybe you can find some documentation (try
the source, maybe a comment here & there will point to some) on the
EXT2 file system. I think either way, a better understanding of how
the filesystem works will at least get you closer to your data.
Maybe start by finding the error message in
/usr/src/linux/fs/ext2/super.c
