For all those people with video cameras hooked up to your linux box. I highly recommend you check out the following bit of software. http://motion.technolust.cx/ It detects motion between the frames taken of your card and writes them out as files. Its in C and used video4linux, its very fast. Check out the examples on the web page. The code is quite simple to understand and I have been able to integrate it into my existing setup. There are a few features I would like to add such as timestamping and adjusting the threashold in a more specific manner on the differce between frames (crappy cameras require a little tweeking to avoid to many false posatives).
